Distributing more Sanitary Kits
Reusable Sanitary Kits distribution for Grades 8 & 9, and the hospital staff.
We’ve received more wonderful donations of kits from Australia which enabled me (Shiv) to give out over 100 Reusable Sanitary Kits to the students in grades 8 & 9 at the local school and almost 50 kits to the hard working women at our local hospital in Telefomin, Sandaun Province, PNG.
Each kit will save a woman over $200 in buying expensive and hard to get sanitary products over the 2-3 years that the kits should last for. The kits will ensure the students do not miss their classes out of fear of showing a stain through their clothes, and they will enable the hospital staff to care for patients with confidence.
There have been times in the past where the hospital has run out of funds and the staff have not been paid. However, many of the staff see their work as a ministry and continued to work even without getting paid.
I am so grateful to the many women who pay for the materials and give up their time to make these Reusable Sanitary Kits. Access to menstrual hygiene products is something I have always taken for granted, but which is challenging for women living in remote locations, such as Telefomin. I have the privilege of distributing these kits and showing the women how to use them, but I couldn’t do that without dozens of women making them and sending them to PNG! Thank you all so much!
My favourite part of being the last link in the chain of passing on this blessing to these young women is praying for them. As a believer in Jesus, I ask Him to bless the women with making wise choices in their lives, and to bless their education, their work and their future husbands. I always ask permission first and I do not exclude anyone from receiving a kit if they do not want to receive prayer. I am only one person, I cannot help everyone, but I serve a powerful God who can support everyone of these women in their lives, if they choose to trust in Him!

We wanted to give their teachers kits to bless them for their wonderful work in teaching the next generation, but also so that they know how the kits work, so they can help the students if they have problems or questions.

We met in an empty ward over lunchtime. All female staff, from cleaners and kitchen workers up to the senior Nurses each received their own Reusable Sanitary Kit and they were all so grateful!
Nurse Rhema - OIC Maternal Child Health
Rhema is the President of the Ladies’ Fellowship group I attend at our local Church and one of the most senior nurses at the Hospital. She helped me to arrange the session to give out the Reusable Sanitary Kits to her colleagues. We also received a donation of Birthing Kits (which Rhema is holding), she and her colleagues will use these when they goes out to more remote communities.
