April Holiday Highlights
After a more stressful start to the year than either of us ever expected, we really needed some R&R. We had a lovely holiday in April. We were able to go to Magnetic Island in Queensland, Australia and stay in a Missionary House.
75 years of MAF in PNG
May 2026 is the 75th anniversary of the first Mission Aviation Fellowship flight in Papua New Guinea. We thank God for guiding our predecessors and our leadership team to bring us to where we are today, still flying help, hope and healing to the isolated people of this struggling but beautiful country.
World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026
We went to the High School to give a lesson in Menstrual Health and making good choices for your body and your future. Then we gave out Reusable Sanitary Kits.
Ryan’s 40th Birthday
Ryan celebrated his 40th birthday with carrot cake and a pile of birthday cards!

Shiv is recovering well…
After being mugged on 27 January 2026, Shiv is home, grateful and recovering slowly but surely. We wanted to record a short video to thank everyone for their prayers and support over the past few weeks…
Things a pilot does when he lives remotely
Ryan’s day job is flying his plane, but being a bush pilot, living in Telefomin, with very little daily support, means he has to do so much much to support MAF in this remote community. Having a road from the mine town of Tabubil has not connected us with our colleagues at the HQ in Mt Hagen yet…
One woman’s trash…
…is another woman’s treasure!
Giving away my empty, disused containers is such a simple way to be a blessing to my local Telefomin friends.
Ryan is a Trainer!
After months of waiting for the paperwork Ryan was finally able to start being a training pilot!
Our Koda Pup
Happy 3rd Birthday to our special puppy, Koda! Such a ray of sunshine in our lives. Here are some pictures of Koda from this year…
Remote Cafe
Starbucks, Bak in PNG. ;-) Ryan enjoyed a cup of coffee in Bak, with his fellow pilot, Capt. Mathias, whilst he waited for the weather to pass.
Highs and Lows
Recently Ryan had a REALLY low start to his day, but it ended on a massive HIGH! God was using a rubbish situation to remind us that we are right where he wants us to be…
First Visit to Munduku
We visited Munduku, in East Sepik Province, for the first time. Ryan had to get a self-check to land and Shiv was gifted a hand-made grass hat. But the biggest impact on Shiv was the peace and quiet of this tiny, isolated community…
Girls Brigade talk on Culture
Shiv taught a session on “Culture” to the Telefomin Girls Brigade, in Tok Pisin. I encouraged the older girls to challenge negative accepted culture, just like Jesus did when he spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well.
Development - Both Good & Bad
The road to Telefomin is bringing development, but also problems. To improve the roads there are diggers and dump trucks, which make noise day and night. There have been increased law and order issues too, but we hope, once the dust settles, by the end of the year, hopefully the road will be an overall positive!?
Journey from Mt Hagen to Kudjip
Our first road-trip since we returned to PNG in January. Only an hour, but with the asphalt stopping at irregular intervals with no signs, it can an intense drive. But you’re winding through the Highlands of PNG which, for the passengers (Shiv & Koda) is a lovely view!
8th Anniversary Holiday
We stayed at the Nazarene Mission Guesthouse in Kudjip for a long-weekend family holiday (with Koda), after Ryan completed his Supervisor Training. It was really restful, and necessary, to get away from the noise of the town, even if just for 3 nights.
Visit to the Dentist at Kompiam
Ryan chipped a tooth and needed to visit a Dentist, which is much more challenging when you live in a bush community in a developing country.
Thankfully Dr Camy, at Kompiam Hospital in Enga Province, was able to help him…
Supervisor Pilot Training
We spent 2 weeks at MAF’s HQ in Mt Hagen where Ryan completed the Supervisor Pilot (SP) course which will be really useful when we get new neighbours! Being an SP means Ryan can check junior PNG pilots into new airstrips and pass on his knowledge and experience of flying in one of the most challenging countries in the world for almost a decade!
“Bilum Books” Training Teachers
Ryan brought Ray, Grace & Eamon to Telefomin to run a training course for early grade teachers from remote communities around the Telefomin area. They work for “Bilum Books”, providing professional training and sorely needed resources which these teachers would otherwise not have access to.
