8th Anniversary Holiday

Ryan’s Supervisor Training took us to Mt Hagen, MAF’s HQ, for 2 weeks, and ended just a few days before our Anniversary, so we thought that was an ideal opportunity to have a break!

We booked to stay in the Nazarene Mission Guesthouse in Kudjip for 3 nights over the weekend. Kudjip is about an hour’s drive along the Highlands Highway from Mt Hagen and they allow us to bring Koda too, so it was a family holiday! This is only the second time we’ve stayed in Kudjip.

We packed up all of our essentials, plenty of fruit & veg from the Hagen market, and snacks and food from the grocery store. We enjoyed easy meals, walks, “Killer Bunnies” card game, movies and lots of chill time in the peace and quiet away from the town.

Life in Telefomin has been really intense this year. Honestly, if we’d have known, in January, that our new neighbours were delayed from March to October, then we probably would have stayed in Mt Hagen until they were ready to join us. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. So being able to get away for a weekend in July was lovely, restful but so needed!

Kudjip is the location of a big Nazarene Mission-run Hospital. They have Doctors, Nurses and other health care professionals living on the Mission Station. Some are long-term folks, like us, others come for one-off trips either for 6 weeks or several years. As well as treating patients, they also train their Papua New Guinean staff.

The capabilities of the team who run the hospital at Kudjip means that, in emergency situations, MAF international staff usually travel the hour down the road to Kudjip, rather than going to the PNG Government hospital in Mt Hagen. It’s a sad reality in a developing country, but we are so grateful that we have access to Mission Hospitals, like Kudjip and Kompiam, if needed.
