Supervisor Pilot Training
We went to Hagen for 2 weeks in early July so that Ryan could be trained by Volker (pictured), a very senior pilot, who has served with MAF for over 25 years!
Ryan successfully completed his course. He still needs a final check to be fully signed off, once that is done then he will be allowed to fly with pilots who are relatively new to flying in PNG. This is a really useful skill for Ryan as we are expecting a new pilot family to join us in October and another in the New Year. (Please pray for them!)
As a Supervisor Pilot (SP), Ryan can fly with our new neighbours, check them into airstrips in our area and teach them about the terrain and weather systems which make flying out of Telefomin, and across the west of PNG, quite challenging. As one of the longest serving full-time PNG pilots, being an SP also enables Ryan to share his experience and help new pilots to learn and adapt to the challenges both of flying in PNG and working cross-culturally.
